The following is *spoilery* so heads up if you want to be completely surprised by Mockingjay Part 1, the Score, and a major element from the film.
An industry newsletter from Universal Music Group has hit the web today, including some awesome details on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Score. The score is to be released on November 24th.
James Newton Howard is the score composer for this upcoming score soundtrack for The Hunger Games Score: Mockingjay Part 1. Howard has previously been the score composer for The Hunger Games: Original Motion Picture Score and The Hunger Games Catching Fire: Original Motion Picture Score. The score features an a capella piece performed by Jennifer Lawrence. The melody was written by The Lumineers. In the film, "The Hanging Tree" starts as an a capella performance by Katniss (Jen Lawrence). She is joined first by birds (Mockingjays), then groups of rebels as the song morphs more into score. James adds choir and orchestra and it builds to an amazing crescendo with an enormous action shot. It's a huge musical moment on the film. It also appears as second end title spot, after "Yellow Flicker Beat."
This newsletter is the same place we found out about the Lorde music video for "Yellow Flicker Beat" (it was supposed to be released yesterday - but wasn't). So, things ARE clearly subject to change. But Nina Jacobson has already commented similarly on The Hanging Tree scene in Mockingjay Part 1 in the filmmaker roundtable inside the first issue of The Hunger Games Exclusive:
I'm excited about what Francis Lawrence and [screenwriter] Peter Craig dreamed up for 'The Hanging Tree.' [They] came up with an incredible way of turning a powerful moment in the book into great big cinema."
Thanks SO much to our friends at QuarterQuell.org for the tip!
