Katniss is One of Time's 11 Most Influential Fictional Characters of 2013

TIME has named Katniss Everdeen among their list of the 11 most influential fictional characters of 2013.

From TIME:

Beyond leading Catching Fire to a gross of $600 million—and counting—the Hunger Games heroine (played by Jennifer Lawrence) is also inspiring several real-world product lines. Among them: the Nerf Rebelle line of guns, quivers and crossbows for girls, Lucas Hugh “Capitol Label” workout clothes, and a makeup line from CoverGirl.

We also think her demolishing gender biases and being a self-sacrificing, heroic every-woman revolutionary might have a wee bit to do with her overall influence. Go Katniss!

'Catching Fire' and Jennifer Lawrence Nominated For Critics' Choice Awards

 

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) has announced the nominees for The 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been nominated for three awards: Best Action Movie, Best Actress in an Action Movie (Jennifer Lawrence) and Best Song for Atlas by Coldplay. Jen is also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Acting Ensemble categories for American Hustle.

The winners will be announced live at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards ceremony on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. The show will be broadcast live on The CW Network at 8:00 PM ET/PT. Two hour pre-show coverage will also air in various local markets before the awards ceremony.

Good luck! And hopefully this means another opportunity to gaze upon our lovely Jennifer Lawrence! Yeah, I said it.

Possible 'Catching Fire' DVD Release Dates for US & UK

 

We haven't confirmed this with Lionsgate yet, but the Catching Fire page on Moviefone's website lists the US DVD release of the movie as March 7, 2014. This would make perfect sense since there is a preview of Divergent on the DVD, which hits theaters on March 21, 2014, giving fans a couple of weeks to check out the preview prior to the movie's premiere.

The official Hunger Games UK Twitter page tweeted a link from Zaavi, where you can pre-order a limited edition Catching Fire DVD Steelbook Edition, and Zaavi had a release date of April 28, 2014 listed for the DVD in the UK. If this seems a little late to you, remember The Hunger Games was also released a few weeks later in the UK than the US last year.

'Catching Fire' Shortlisted for Make-up & Hairstyling Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the shortlist of seven films that have been chosen as semi-finalists for the annual Oscar for Make-Up and Hairstyling at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is on that list. The three finalists will be informed of their Oscar nomination on Thursday, January 16 at 5:30 AM PT with the winner announced at the annual Oscar presentation on Sunday, March 2.

Dallas Buyers Club

The Great Gatsby

Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa

On Saturday, January 11, 2014, all members of the Academy's Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

The 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

PHOTOS & VIDEO: 'Mockingjay' Set at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA

Mockingjay is filming at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA again! Thanks to some observant fans we've got pictures and video of the action inside the hotel. On Location Vacations reports that one of their Twitter followers, @emileerocks13, let them know that Mockingjay was setting up to shoot a scene in the hotel. Emilee and her friend Meredith let us know that they're filming a rescue scene in The Capitol (PEETA!!) Sunday and Monday with Gale and Boggs. Scroll down to see their pic of Liam Hemsworth and Francis Lawrence on set!

UPDATE: Our follower, Dustin was at the hotel on Monday, Dec 16th and reported the following:

Lots of extras in all black playing unconscious/dead on the Pulse set. Tons of security. Hotel staff on walkies and regular clothed film crew in the hallways. 10th floor being used again. Crew may be wrapping soon on this set. Cake was being passed around to crew.

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Original Score in Oscar Race

One hundred fourteen scores from eligible feature-length movies released in 2013 are in contention for nominations in the Original Score category for the 86th Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by James Newton Howard is among the 114 being considered for an Oscar nomination. The Music Branch of the Academy will vote, and out of these 114 works, the top 5 will be nominated for an Oscar. The nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
