Catching Fire Costume Designer Talks Katniss' Wedding Dress

Is this THE dress? When Katniss' Official Capitol Portrait was revealed earlier this week we all wondered whether this was the actual wedding dress. Catching Fire Costume Designer Trish Summerville set the record straight with The Hollywood Reporter yesterday:

"Katniss’ white gown is by a designer named Tex Saverio in Jakarta. He is amazing!  I found his designs quite some time ago and saved his information for a perfectly fitting project, then came Catching Fire – perfect!" she said.

“We did several Skype calls with sketches to work together in designing the wedding dress. I had seen a dress he designed with a similar metal bodice, and I wanted to incorporate it into our wedding-dress design," Summerville adds.

She also pointed out the bodice, a Swarovski-crystal-clad “organza corset under a metal cage." The metal pieces rising up are meant to signify fire and flames, while layers of laser-cut feathers at the waist and shoulder tie in the film's "Mockingjay" concept.

The skirt also has numerous layers of organza and chiffon ruffles giving it grandness but still making it seem airy and fluid for movement. As Summerville explains, "This is very important for the twirling/ spinning  Katniss does onstage, per Caesar Flickerman's request." 

Summerville confirms that Effie Trinket's red ruffled poster dress and matching shoes are indeed from the house of Alexander McQueen. But she also reveals that Peeta’s suit is by a Korean designer that she is "obsessed with" called Juunj. "He is unbelievably talented," she writes. "And Peeta’s boots are by Rick Owens. “

Summerville also confirmed that she is using some pieces from Clayton and Flavie Webster's L.A.-based couture line, exclusive to their Cerre boutique in West Hollywood. The design duo also worked with Summerville on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, supplying Lisbeth Salander actress Rooney Mara’s leatherwear and backpack.

Suzanne Collins, Gary Ross, and Billy Ray have been nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for The Hunger Games screenplay. Every year, the Horror Writers Association presents The Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement in Horror writing. The winner will be announced at a gala in New Orleans on June 15th.

Jennifer Lawrence Nominated for Empire Award

Jennifer Lawrence is nominated for a 2013 Empire Award for her role as Katniss in The Hunger Games! Empire is "the world's biggest movie magazine." Vote for Jen HERE.

Jena has signed on to star in the indie thriller Angelica playing Constance, a young girl who falls in love with a rich doctor. Trouble ensues. Abercrombie & Fitch Releases Jennifer Lawrence Modeling Photo

Remember when Jen talked to Conan about not quite making it as an Abercrombie & Fitch model? (bottom video HERE) Seems they should have re-thought that decision to nix her shots. Abercrombie gave a little Oscar win shout-out to Jen on their twitter and they included this GORGOEUS photo of from her now- infamous shoot.

Jennifer's items sold for about $12,000! That's far above expectation. From Reuters:

The wool, full-length winter coat worn by Lawrence in the Oscar-nominated comedy topped all items, selling for $4,652 in the three-day online auction, Los Angeles auction house Nate D. Sanders said on Friday.

The memorabilia dealer had expected the items to fetch between $500 and $1,500 each following the 22-year-old's Best Actress win at the Academy Awards on Sunday.

Lawrence also won awards from the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild in January for her "Silver Linings Playbook" performance.

The custom-tailored white pants Lawrence wore during the film's climactic ballroom dance scene with co-star Bradley Cooper went for $3,493, and a package of a teal sports bra and blue long-sleeved shirt sold for $3,175.

A black tank top from Lawrence's wardrobe, but not worn in the film, fetched $624.

Amandla Stenberg's Two New Roles

Amandla Stenberg, our Rue, has just been cast in two big projects.

Amandla will co-star as Irene in NBC's as yet untitled 1/2 hour comedy starring Craig Robinson. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy centers on a talented musician Craig (Robinson), who adjusts to his new life as a middle school teacher. Amandla plays a "spunky, fearless and smart eighth grader deperate to learn to sing despite an off-key voice. 

Amandla will also voice a character in the upcoming Rio 2! Congrats, Amandla!
