Megan Hayes on 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' - "My Experience Couldn't Have Been Better"

Megan Hayes, our District 6 female tribute and morphling addict in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, recently spoke with Dread Central about her role in the movie Plus One (available now VOD on IFC Midnight). They snuck in a few questions about Catching Fire:

DC: Can you talk about your experience on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and explain who the Morphlings are for those who don’t know?

MH: I don’t know how much I can say. I am the tribute from District Six. The morphlings are addicted to a drug called morphling - a pain killer that’s kind of a morphine-esque kind of drug. My experience on Hunger Games couldn’t have been better. I was embraced by everyone and had a fantastic experience. It was a really fun role to play; the director [Francis Lawrence] was incredibly kind but also incredibly smart and knew exactly what he wanted. It was a really ideal experience overall.

DC: How much better was craft services on The Hunger Games then on +1?

MH: Lemme tell ya’ about craft services on The Hunger Games. I really couldn’t partake of it that much because I was on a very strict diet where I had to lose and get to a very malnourished-looking weight. So, it looked great but I basically ate a lot of almonds and a lot of fruits and veggies and that was about it.

DC: That’s kind of an interesting connection between your character in Hunger Games and then in +1 where you’re both addicts.

MH: I know! Isn’t that great? I’m not gonna lie, fingers crossed, I hope this is my new niche.

Jennifer Lawrence and Francis Lawrence on 'Catching Fire' Costumes

Staci Wilson spoke with Jennifer Lawrence and Francis Lawrence at a recent red carpet event about Costume designer Trish Summerville and the costumes in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Staci Wilson: Are there even more outrageous fantasy costumes in the new movie?

Francis Lawrence: Yeah, there's a lot. We brought on a fantastic costume designer, Trish Summerville, who I'd worked with before in music videos. She came from a fashion and styling background so we brought her on and she did loads and loads of great stuff. I mean, there's some really amazing dresses that Effie wears, and Trish even got some Alexander McQueen museum pieces for Katniss to wear in the chariots, and for the interviews, [not to mention] the wedding dress and the Mocking Jay dress. So to answer your question: there's loads of fun costumes in this!

Q: How much input do you have in something like that, with the costumes?

Francis Lawrence: A lot. But it all sort of starts with me wanting to bring Trish on, so you know, I know the kind of level of taste and sophistication that she brings, and so that's making a big decision right there. And then in the early conversations with her, talking about certain kinds of things that we both like that we thought that we could use. Someone as talented as she is, I kind of let her run with it and then just make little changes, specifically if it has to do with story.

Q: Or practicality.

Francis Lawrence: Yeah. Well, sometimes practicality. That gets tricky. The wedding dress was pretty impractical. Jen was falling a lot in it.

Jennifer Lawrence: Yeah, the wedding dress was incredible, it's stunning and unbelievable. I'm not good with big dresses, and stairs. I didn't know that until afterwards, I wish I would have known! [laughs]

Bruno Gunn on 'Catching Fire' & "How Special This Whole Thing Is"

Bruno Gunn spoke with Ohio.com - the online version of the Akron Beacon Journal - to talk about his upcoming hosting duties at the Pathways For Children 40th Anniversary Gala (get the details here). He also talked about his start, his career, and had some great things to say about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

From Ohio.com

Gunn, 44, has been acting for about 15 years. Born Bruno Gioiello, Gunn will play the combatant Brutus in Catching Fire, the second movie based on Suzanne Collins’ series of novels set in a future society that pits players from different regions against each other in a to-the-death battle of wits and skill. The first movie made more than $400 million in the U.S. in 2012 and further propelled the career of actress Jennifer Lawrence, a recent Oscar winner for Silver Linings Playbook.

Gunn has done comedy, including Bad Teacher, lots of independent films and TV shows like True Blood and Sons of Anarchy, often as what VH1.com’s Halle Kiefer dubbed “menacing middle-aged hunks.” He is the first to admit that the parts aren’t always big or especially memorable.

“I’m either the guy breaking into your house, or arresting the guy breaking into your house, or trying to track down the guy breaking into your house,” he said in a telephone conversation, though he is proud of all his performances. And they led him to Catching Fire.
