'Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2' Synopsis Released at Cannes

Studios deal behind the scenes at The Cannes Film Festival to acquire films and sell existing properties to foreign buyers. Collider is reporting that Lionsgate managed to sell nine of their movies at Cannes, and Lionsgate's press release contains brief synopses for each of the films, including Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2:

In MOCKINGJAY PARTS 1 & 2, we follow heroine Katniss Everdeen’s journey as she leads the districts of Panem in a rebellion against the tyrannical and corrupt Capitol. As the war that will determine the fate of Panem escalates, Katniss must decipher for herself who she can trust and what needs to be done, with everything she cares for in the balance.

'Mockingjay Part 1' Casting Call Issued

Acting-Auditions is reporting that casting calls have been issued for principal actors and extras on Mockingjay Part 1, confirming earlier reports that production is starting on September 16, 2013 and will shoot in Boston and Atlanta.

From Acting-Auditions: 

Color Force/C4 Productions in association with Larger Than Life Productions are in pre-production on the feature film "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1". This is the first half of the third installment in the blockbuster hit The Hunger Games trilogy, and will be filmed back-to-back with "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2". Shooting will run from September 16, 2013 through May 20, 2014 and will take place in Atlanta, GA and Boston, MA.

Principal actor casting for the main roles will take place in Los Angeles with additional actor casting in Atlanta and Boston. Extras will be cast throughout the entire production in both cities.

Production Weekly just confirmed that 9/16/13 - 5/20/14 production schedule and added Los Angeles as an additional filming location for Mockingjay.

Production Weekly just revealed that Mockingjay Part 1 will start production September 16th with locations in Atlanta and Boston! What do you think? Wouldn't it be fun to get some Mockingjay set photos just as we're gearing up for the Catching Fire premiere?

Production Weekly just confirmed the Mockingjay production schedule as Septermber 16th through May 20th, 2014, and says Los Angeles will be an additional location for the shoot. 

Rebel Wilson, Capitol Citizen? Rumor Alert!

Buzzfeed just spoke with Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy from Pitch Perfect, Brynn from Bridesmaids), and she admitted she loves Jennifer Lawrence and has had a meeting about joining the cast of presumably, Mockingjay. 

From Buzzfeed:

Ah, so you're a J.Law fan?

RW: Yeah, yeah, and I've met her. I met her at a party and she was super-duper nice. She's really quite tall. Which I found — I don't know if you get that impression when you see her in movies, but she's quite tall. Yeah, and she's just really nice and I love The Hunger Games and I can't wait for the new one to come out.

Ooh, would we ever see you in a role in The Hunger Games?

RW: Um, seriously, I have had a meeting about being in The Hunger Games. Yes.

Oh! In what district?

RW: It was one of the people in the capitol. That's all I'll say.

That would be good. That's a good choice.

RW: Yeah, because there aren't a lot of roles open, because they've all already been cast, but that would be awesome. I'd love to be in The Hunger Games.

Rumor: 'Catching Fire to Film for Four More Weeks & 'Mockingjay' Possible July Start?

A very reliable Hunger Games source, Anchor Russ Bowen from Asheville, NC tweeted today that Catching Fire has four more weeks of filming left, 2 weeks in Los Angeles and two in Hawaii. He added "over budget." Bowen also said that Mockingjay starts shooting in July but that location hasn't been finalized. This is still just a RUMOR but Russ Bowen has been a trust-worthy source on Hunger Games set information in the past.

Screenwriter Danny Strong to Pen Mockingjay Part 2

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Lionsgate has exercised Danny Strong's option to write the script for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. Strong, who also wrote the Emmy award winning HBO movie Game Change, had already written the script for Mockingjay Part 1 and had a deal to write the script for Part 2. But the deal was always contingent on the studio liking his draft for Part 1. They must've liked Part 1 because it's all systems go for Part 2!
