The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is currently filming District 12 scenes in Germany. They’ve been spotted at Landschaftspark area in Duisburg, Germany filming the hanging tree scenes, the District 12 reaping, Peacekeeper recruit training scenes, and more. We’ve had fans send us some awesome photos from the set.

Photos from around the Landschaftspark set:

District 12 extras, Peacekeepers, and vehicles spotted in the area:

We got to see glimpses of the new/old version of the Peacekeeper uniforms and their vehicles. Plus, some peeks at the District 12 citizens’ costumes. It looks like Costume Designer Trish Summerville is nailing it once again.

The Hanging Tree

One fan who was at Landschaftspark told us that they were able to watch the filming of the hanging tree scenes on Aug 22 and 23rd. An actor or stunt double was “hanged” at the gallows over and over for FOUR HOURS! Rumor has it that they shot both the Arlo scene AND the Sejanus/Lil scenes during this filming period - makes total sense if you have the set up, why not shoot both sequences?

Wednesday and Thursday August 24 and 25 the reaping scenes were shot. The fan on the scene couldn’t see much more than extras running around but they could hear Rachel Zegler singing "Nothing You Can Take From Me" over and over while the scene was being filmed and said she sounded amazing and very melancholy and dramatic. CHILLS!

Also there’s a cast change for the actress playing Mayfair Lipp, Mayor Lipp’s daughter. Initially, Laurel Marsden was cast in the role but she had to drop out and has been replaced by Isobel Jesper Jones. The source present at the filming location confirms this as Jones was filming during the reaping scenes.

Filming continued at the Railroad Museum in Cologne, Germany and then Hattingen where they filmed exteriors and location shots at Henrichshutte Iron and Steelworks.

Prior to this, lake and meadow scenes were filmed in Poland. Local news sites reported that areas around the Wałbrzych region, Boguszów-Gorce, a part of the trail leading to Chełmiec, and the reservoir in Grzędy were closed to the public and there were several trucks with the TBOSAS working title symbol “Butterfly” nearby and super tight security. We still managed to see a few photos from those filming days via some good detective work on instagram.
