Listen to "Yellow Flicker Beat" The New 'Mockingjay Part 1' Single by Lorde
Check out Lorde's brand new single "Yellow Flicker Beat" from the Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack!
Lorde talked about the song on KROQ this morning. Major Mockingjay Part 1 plot point *SPOILERS* are revealed here so proceed with caution if you haven't read the book!
“Basically I wrote the song specifically for the movie, it wasn’t something that I had a draft of previously. I reread the books, and I just wanted to tap into everything that Katniss is feeling in that film and what’s the crazy stuff that goes on. One of the things that happened in the book which to me felt like this crazy turning point was her best friend Peeta tries to kill her, he’s been brainwashed and tries to strangle her. It just felt like something so irreparable and something that the characters couldn’t turn back from. I felt like Katniss was like ‘okay, I’m taking names. I’m coming for blood. You don’t do these types of things to my friends and family and get away with it.’ I just wanted to make something kind of dark and haunting.”
On how she got into the mindset to write "Yellow Flicker Beat."
"It’s weird because everything that the character could think or feel is already kind of laid out for you in the book. You can’t take that many leaps, it becomes your song and not their song so it was definitely about keeping in that mindset and just thinking about ‘What would Katniss do?,’ but she’s such an awesome character to write for and it was such an awesome experience. There couldn’t have been a better character for me to write from the perspective of.”
I'm going to be listening to the song on repeat all day.
I've got my fingers laced together, I made a little prison. And I'm locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on me"

This song it's horrible i don't get the point of the "yellow flicker beat" it has nothing to do with the movies. i really like lord music and song though. but i really think she should write another song or collaborate with another artist. all love.

SPOILER ALERTS FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE! Not everyone has read the books, you know.
g noble what do you mean by that?
So sorry about that, G. This is definitely NOT a spoiler-free blog but we usually try to give you the heads up when they're coming. I was really surprised she let this one loose on KROQ live this AM. I've fixed the post so that there's a spoiler warning. I know it's too late for you, so I'm certainly sorry about that.
Diana, the song is definitely getting mixed reactions from our readers. Some people (I'm one) absolutely love it. Some people just can't stand it. I love that moody, dark stuff and think it suits the tone of Mockingjay.
