100 Days of Mockingjay - Your THG Story
Suzanne Collins created The Hunger Games from an idea born of late night channel surfing between real war coverage and reality television. Suzanne, the daughter of a career military man and Vietnam Veteran, has said that she wanted to write an age-appropriate war story for every age group. The Hunger Games is her war story for young adults. The trilogy's themes of poverty, socio-economic disparity, government corruption, propaganda, revolution, redemption, and the consequences of war don't make the trilogy a typical YA light read. But I think that's also why we love it so much.
The Hunger Games means many different things to many different people. For some, the heroine, Katniss Everdeen, is a strong and inspiring female role model, for some she motivates as a survivor of poverty and PTSD. She's complicated, imperfect, damaged and an incredibly compelling lead character.
Some people simply adore the love stories - Peeta and Katniss are the catalysts for countless Everlark fan fics. Everthorne, Odesta, any 'ship you sail in The Hunger Games certainly isn't all hearts and flowers and the romances in the books are tinted with sadness. Not a typical happy ending to be found anywhere in the trilogy, yet we relish them all the same.
In Thailand, citizens have identified with The Hunger Games and used its three finger salute as a symbol to combat injustice. Odds In Our Favor uses the salute along with their #MyHungerGames initiative to highlight economic inequality in the world.
We want to know what The Hunger Games means to YOU. Why do you love it? How has it inspired you? What brought you into this wild, wonderful fandom and how has it changed your life?

The Hunger Games story means so much to me. It is an inspiration that shows people can overcome the situations they are thrust into, and come out victorious. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a few years ago, and one of the things that helped me to become a fighter is seeing other people, real or not real, overcoming terrible circumstances. For me, I also needed an escape, so the world of Panem and the districts gave me a refuge while I healed. I have always wanted a pin for the final Mockingjay book, as it symbolizes at least to myself, the breaking free from that thing that holds you down. Whether it is an oppressive President, or a cancer diagnosis, there are some things worth fighting for, such as love, freedom, and unity. I thank Suzanne Collins for inspiring us to rise above our circumstances and take flight with the adventures of her Mockingjay.
I started to see the film shortly before he left THG Sinsajo-parte1 in a month and had read the books and movies over 5 veces.Para me means the courage, the courage of a girl against the injustices of the Capitol, even in some countries have banned the movie because the use as sinbolo of rebelion. No I imagine my world without this trilogia.lll extraordinary.
What the Hunger Games means to me? So I was first introduced in 2011 when my best friend told me about it. I tried it and didn't like it. Then my teacher recommend it so I 'd thought I'd tried it again and I liked it in the second time, but only liked it.The film came out and I liked it, but not felt anything inside me. In 2014 I watched the two films that were released and then I read the books for 3 days, went to watch the Mockingjay part 1 in the theatre and after that I realised that Katniss and I think alike. I believe that after a few years The Hunger Games will become real and every country will have to gave 2 children to fight with others children (but that isn't connected to what I I'm talking about at the moment, sorry :D). A few weeks after watching the Mockingjay part 1 I realised that I have become a fangirl, because I was started buying magazines, posters, everything coneccted with the books and movies and make a fan account about Josh at Twitter. The story change my life, I was shy and antisocial, but now I'm the "leader" of my class :D . Katniss taught me to be brave and to protect people, who I love. Peeta taught me to believe in my dreams and fight for them and what I belive in. The story gave me a purpose and helped me to find who I am and what I want to do with my life and I'm thankful for that 😄👼💖💖💖
My THG story starts back in 2010 when a teacher recommended that I read The Hunger Games. I took her suggestion and read it. I loved it and when I found out there was going to be a movie I was so excited!!! I saw THG in theaters at least 4 times and my family became annoyed with how much I talked about it. My love only got greater from there. Then I read CF and fell in love with Finnick Odair. Catching Fire was my everything and helped me get through tough times at home including a divorce and a variety of other things. Then when Mockingjay came out later in 2010 I read it and was sad that the series had come to an end but it's story left a lasting impression on me. Here we are today in 2015 and we are looking at the last THG movie. I am thrilled to see it but sad that it's coming to an end. I have loved this series for 5 years and it helped me get though tough times in my life. The characters mean so much to me and I am thankful everyday that my teacher back in 2010 told me to read the books and that I listened to her. I'm proud to be a fan of this series and I will be a fan forever.

My introduction to THG was when the first movie came out. I was so excited about the series that I read the series very quickly after that. I never expected a series to touch me so much. I haven't had a commotion like that since I started reading the Harry Potter books when I was in 3rd grade. What ended up striking me the most were the relationships, but also the truth within the words. So many things from them relate to things that be have experienced or can relate to.
Everyone has lost someone that they have loved very deeply. People do lose sisters, friends, parents, young people, etc. Katniss showed us that even though these things were all devastating she never stopped fighting for what was right. It also showed the strength of those with PTSD and helped to make us see what they are really going through. There is war constantly surrounding us here on our home turf or out there somewhere else in the world. People are in a way being sent to die and are volunteering like the Careers did. We train them and send them to some of the worst possible situations to help try and maintain peace back home. Something else it can relate to is all of the violence amongst people here in the US. We have our own set of peace keepers but rebellions are beginning because people want justice. People want their freedom and to live in a world without fear.
We need these books for the support of those that have faced terrible tragedies. Those who need to know that they can be broken and still survive. Those who need a female role model that does not compromise herself for a man's affection. We need to know to not have our society end up this way. We need Katniss and the truth in her words.
I was going through a really bad time when I first read Hunger Games. I was in such a bad place, I needed to have something to fall to. And I read Hunger Games because one of my friends wanted me to read it. And I finish all three books in a week, and in that time I had a family that I knew wouldn't let me down, that I knew the second I opened that book I would be able to have a family. It's like I was reaped with Katniss, I felt Gale's pain. I screamed with Peeta. I was in the rebellion with all of them. They showed me that I have to keep going no matter how hard things are. For these movies I just about cry every time someone mentions that it's almost over. It's like I'm having to say goodbye to my family.
My Hunger Games journey started when one of my best friends told me that she's bored and asked me to go to the movies with her. I'm always up for a movie so of course I agreed. The movie happened to be The Hunger Games. At the time I didn't have an idea that it was a book trilogy, only my friend told me so when I was confused at the end of the movie, because the story seemed unfinished for me. Plus I was like "COME ON! Who is Katniss gonna end with, Peeta or Gale?" My friend only laughed at me and told me to read the books. So I did. And I fell in love.
This is how it started for me, but the feeling was intensified when I looked up the cast and I fell in love with every single person who plays in those movies and produces them. I've never seen a cast and crew that acts more like a family than this one.
I love the story because it's not only about rebellion, war, courage, sacrifice and hope. It's also about the importance and power of love and friendship. It shows us that love is the strongest power that exists.
It also shows us that no matter where are you from, no matter what life situation you have, you can make your life mean something for yourself and other people. You can light a spark that could change the face of the world, sometimes even if it wasn't your actual intention.
For me The Hunger Games is one of those stories that changed my life and my perception of the world and the people. It changed me and I know that it was a positive change. That's what I'm grateful Suzanne Collins for and I will never forget about it.

(I'm not sure if this should be written here) but I will anyway. It all started when the first film "The Hunger Games" premiere (which is one of my favorite movies is perfect apart from other films) Well read the books, a book is always better than a movie, then read the books and I was very surprised, there were moments I will never forget, whenever I see some memory games hunger those fragments that I lived to read books, whether The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay each had their own; They were, are and will be perfect these last moments with every smile, every anger and every drop of tears to pour in each of the books, this is "pure perfection". Well since I read the book because I delve too this, I currently live to the fullest, waiting for "on fire" and it came. That day was beautiful and painful when you see the film, will also be an incredible moment in my life when I feel Sinsajo the result of good books and decided to split the movie, I said to myself: Great, does not end so quickly. He came film and it was like God, this is too ... Katniss, Peeta, too ... Oh God ... but I had to endure all the pain ... Well so far I have to wait until the end, I am 100% sure it will be the best film in the world. Well the trailer says everything is perfect, and also because it is very attached to the book, is to be perfect ... (Llorare, cry, mourn again with that smile on my face so perfect that are Hunger Games) Well all this saga-trilogy has made it very different from what it was a person, I am a person who is strong in the most difficult times, that was by Katniss and what I learned from Peeta is that you should love all that are around you whatever happens especially to the person you love, and more ... But you never saw this saga sees the world as it is ... everything is perfect ... Now I hope Mockingjay Part 2 or Final have that satisfaction for all this time gave Suzann Collins, Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and many more ... This emotion would be hard to explain, so here longer ... Thanks to all the people who have been associated with Hunger Games, in fact Thanks!
Then he said:
"You love me. Real or not real?"
I tell him, "Real".

This is how my THG story begins. A couple years ago when I was in the 4th grade, the THG books were starting to rise and become popular since the movie was about to come out, but I had no idea what it was about or anything! Anyways, every year my school holds a "Book Choice Awards" and we dress up and put on a red carpet and we have photographers and presenters and simulate an Oscars ceremony but with books and we have different categories and we vote online and it is a very fun event we do annually, (this year I was Katniss!) So we were on the2012 Choice Awards and one of the categories was best book series and I saw a nominee I had heard about but didn't really know it and it was The Hunger Games. I had no idea what it was and they just showed a cover of the book and at first I thought it was about arcade games and the mockingjay pin was like a token you put in the machines and stuff and I was so stupid at the time haha, but it was the big thing at the moment and EVERYONE was reading them so I said to myself, "well, why not give them a try?" So I went to my school library to look for them and the librarian told me they were ALL already taken, so I waited and waited and they were never available so I dropped the idea and forgot about them. One day I went to like Tj Maxx or Ross or one of those stores that have everything laying around and I found the book! I was really excited so I asked my dad to buy it for me and he did so I started reading them. At first I didn't understand a thing and I read the back cover and my concept on the arcade games changed completely. I continued reading it and at like the first 2 chapters my teacher told me I wasn't ready to read it and that I should keep it and come back to it when I was ready for it, (I was 11 at the time) so I did.
A few months later, the movie came out and I watched it with my friends and then everything came to sense. So my 4th year ended and I went into 5th grade. When I was in 5th grade I started reading THG again and this time I did understand everything very well and I finished it in like a week! So then I read catching fire and Mockingjay and I absolutely loved loved loved the series so much! I started my account, however, after I saw the movie the first time and I hadn't read Catching Fire or Mockingjay yet but I started it because I really loved the movie and by that time IG was just beginning to get known it was like early 2012 and I only had my personal and I didn't wanna post thg pics there so I started my account named @hunger_games0. After I finished the series I was so so so obsessed and before reading those books I didn't like reading at all, I was just average at reading like I read only for school but after reading The Hunger Games my obsession for books and fandoms blossomed! 3 years later here I am, being 14 years old after starting my fan page when I was 11 and had no idea what The Hunger Games were. It has been such an amazing experience so far! I've got noticed by many cast members, I've been selected to promote Mockingjay, I have such a successful account, and I've met so many people with whom I share the same interest and I can call some people my best friends. I have to say The Hunger Games and the fandom have changed my life ever since and I haven't had any regrets at all and it's been such an amazing journey I hope I never end!
I have no chance. I really don't. The Hunger games means the world to me, but these fans deserve to get those things you're giving away. Let me just say that The Hunger games is the best thing that's ever happened to me. Suzanne Collins is a hero. She's amazing, has a great imagination, and I ADORE her. I ADORE your fanpage, too! Have a great evening.
And tributes that commented:
"May the odds be ever in your favor!"
My hunger games story has earned me a friend, helped me start many conversations, I became closer with people because of it, I've laughed, I've cured and cursed while reading and watching them so I've love to win so I've know someone read this and though something good about it and if I win I'll definitely be giving part of the prize to the friend I made all because of the hunger games. And I know this post won't be as long or meaningful as others but I don't care because my hunger games story is the most special of them all to me.

What the Hunger Games Means to Me
I first become interested in the Hunger Games a couple of months before the first film came out. I had seen the books around, and heard a movie was being made, but hadn't been interested up to that point. I finally started reading the books and was drawn into the story. (Knowing what I know now, I wish I'd gotten into them earlier.)
I loved the characters, and the way Suzanne created the world of Panem, so richly detailed. Seeing the film was no different. I loved the world of District 12 and Panem onscreen. The characters (and, by extension, the actors) made such an impression. One couldn't help but love them, good or bad. Especially Willow, Lenny, Elizabeth, Amandla and, of course, Jennifer- the best Katniss we could ask for.
For me, finding books to read has never been a problem. As a *slightly* older fan, it's been fun to see this "new" YA genre to get into the past several years. It's given me another opportunity to find a whole new set of books and characters to love.
Aside from a great story, the Hunger Games to me is the story of a girl who loves her sister, wants to change her world, and find peace at the end of it all.
I love to read. I always have, but when the Hunger Games came out I was still just a little kid- I thought they were evil. And then, just a few months before my 13th birthday, I began reading them. I resonated with Katniss deeply because she was so strong and she'd been hurt so much that she didn't just pass love around. I am like that.
She had lost her dad and I have lost mine, just recently in fact, and it seemed to make me feel like, wow, I'm not alone, even if it is fictional.
I feel like Panem and the Games are something that could truly happen with the way our world is headed. I feel like the books are a warning, that the movies are a warning, that the whole story is a warning that we are destroying ourselves.
I love the Hunger Games because it feels real. You feel Katniss's struggle. The struggles of the district's, even of the capital, because they really just don't know. I feel like the Hunger Games truly are a classic, and they have helped me so much. Something to ponder, to think about, to enjoy over and over.
hello i was read trhee books and i love it. really mrs suzane describes a futuristic society very close to reality, the first book involves the reader katniss fight begins to protect her family and it ends up as a fight for freedom of all panem. i love this story because I feel what I felt katniss is very strong feeling that conveys in books I can not choose one favorite because all three loved I wish it would never end Congratulations on this great success please do not forget us we consider citizens of Panem especially from the 12th district thank you very much for this fan page greetings from mexico Monclova Coahuila . p.s. excuse my English I wrote this commentary with a translator online
Haha I'm not much of a writer and it is with complete awkwardness that I even write anything at all. Fans of The Hunger Games are teenagers or young adults....and then there's me. A 45 year old. Yes, I said it. Then again, everyone who knows me knows I love it. It's almost an obsession, and I really got into it only because of Josh Hutcherson. I followed his career for a long time and have his autograph. It wasn't until I saw the first movie that I read the books. Since then, people call me a super fan because I saved up money to drive from my home in Maryland to North Carolina where I visited District 12, the arena at DuPont State Forest, and ran around Asheville to all of the sites the actors were (Malaprops Bookstore, Hotel Indigo- where I harassed the bartender about whether or not he saw Josh while he made me a kick butt drink, and Lexington Avenue Brewery). I also did a Hunger Games tour at District 12 and the people running it were amazing. I even was given a piece of the set (Fire Ring)- I got lucky on that. Last month, I went to the exhibition and had a blast. The girl at the register and I talked about Josh and she got to see him the day they came in...I bought Buttercup, dressed him up incognito...Ve Neill and Megan Hayes liked it so that's cool. I will be taking my sister and niece with me in October so I can stock up on more merchandise. I don't care if people think I'm weird. It is what it is....I love The Hunger Games!
The Hunger Games is so meaningful to me because it reignited my love of books, and especially my love of YA. I have since started a book blog, gone to BEA, met TONS of amazing people, and I owe it all to reading The Hunger Games. I seriously don't know where I'd be without these books in my life!
Honestly I was a skeptic when I first heard of it. It was fresh off the heels of Twilight, another Young Adult none inspiring story about vampires and a love triangle and, (in my opinion) very little substance.
I decided to look into The Hunger Games after reading so many positive critic reviews(at this point I began to entirely ignore reviews from teenage fans--no offense), and came to understand Katniss' story as more than a struggle over choosing the cuter guy.
I decided to give the book a read and I was instantly captivated by her complicated world. A world foreign to me but faintly familiar, not one so ludicrous that we couldn't imagine our society headed towards Panem's fate, but one where if it did we'd hope to have the ability to adapt or cope like Katniss has. Fear, poverty, hunger are problems she faces every single day of her life. Couple that with the fact that her own concerns aren't even her top priority. There's Prim, her sister, "the only person she certain she loves."
I adore the themes of sacrificial love and selflessness. Every single act of selflessness isn't taken without the threat of some major consequence. Yet, that doesn't hold Katniss back ...or any other character of this special quality for that matter. They keep pushing, they keep fighting even in the face of certain death, adversity, destruction, they come near but never give in. That's inspiring.
Most people have been/are going through some sort of difficulty in their lives. I believe Katniss' story is a way of saying one does not need super powers or super human abilities to face the most heinous evil, to fight for what you believe in, to protect what matters most, and so many important themes. What so many readers and fans can relate to is simply the fact that she is not presented as a hero, but a soldier. At the very core of her a soldier.
So much of this story deals with-- as mentioned above--war and the consequences of war. It truly does make a person more aware of the degree of sacrifice that goes with attaining freedom and equality for all people.
I'm not sure I can pinpoint what exactly it was that resonated so deeply with Katniss' story compared to other works I've read , all I DO know for certain is that it has an unshakable after affect.
I realize now that I read each of these books at scary times in my life, and each time I was able to open a Hunger Games book I was transported to a different world--not always a pleasant one but one that was refreshingly not my own. There was always sadness but there was always something even better...hope.
#MyTHGStory
The Hunger Games was first introduced to me when my dad recognized Suzanne Collins’s name on one of the books. They had been friends in high school. Being the book obsessed 11 year old that I was, my father knowing someone who had written a book trilogy was a big deal, so I HAD to read THG. After lots of debating my parents decided to let me read the book and I was instantly hooked. I had never read anything like it before. I brought one of the books with me every day to school. I didn’t have a lot of friends in my class but the books helped me make some. I met some people who enjoyed it as much as I did and we talked about it every day.
My obsession increased in middle school when Catching Fire came out. That’s when I really was introduced to Jennifer, Josh, and Liam. I fell in love with those goofballs instantly. They seemed like very genuine people who actually cared a lot about the characters they played. Catching Fire is what helped me discover my love for film and the amazing actors in it inspired me to act.
When Mockingjay came out my friends and I saw it opening night. We must have seemed crazy, running outside the theater with three fingers up in the air, but we didn’t care. Our love for this series was more important than how we looked. Even though that's one of the reasons my dad probably regrets telling me about the whole Suzanne Collins thing. I loved Mockingjay so much and I basically cried the entire movie because of Everlark. Tbh, I sat on the theater floor when it ended. These movies make me an emotional wreck.
The Hunger Games is much more to me than just a bunch of books and movies. It showed me unique characters like the brave Peeta Mellark, the intelligent Haymitch Abernathy, and the fiery Johanna Mason. It helped me through some of my toughest times. It taught me about love, loss, and sacrifice. Katniss Everdeen is a name I will not soon forget and that’s not because she took down an evil dictator or won a battle against 22 other teenagers, but because she fought for what she believed was right. She was selfless and stood up for others. I think everyone could learn something from Katniss. I certainly did.
I think I already posted this but for some reason it didn't work and my entire text disappeared so I will write it again.
It all started in january 2012 when I had to tell about a book to my class at school. I was wondering what book would be good so my mom bought me THG and CF books. I fell in love with them immediately. The story was so unique and I found Katniss an amazing character.
Then the movie came out and my dad got me two tickets to Finland's premiere. I could say that this was when I became totally obsessed with the series.
The Hunger Gmes means so much to me. I remember that when I first read the books, I had only few friends and I felt really lonely sometimes. But this series helped me a lot. It proved me a way to escape the reality and feel less lonely. It also helped me to find my identity; now I know I can be myself and don't have to try to be someone else. In addition, it made me like reading a lot and thanks to THG I'm nowdays a huge book addict.
So, it's easy to say The Hunger Games changed my life. I don't know where I would be without it. It's hard to comprehend that the series I love so much is over in a few months but I know the characters and the story will stay in my heart forever
I will post my THG Story on Facebook, but for now, reading the posts on here are very inspirational! :D
Hi Panem Propaganda :)
I was only thirteen when the first movie came out, I was at a friends house and she asked me if I wanted to watch the hunger games. I hesitantly said yes. But little did I know that watching that movie introduced me to a fandom like no other. I love the HG series and it has become part of my life ever since that day, as I can for once enter a fantasy world and drown everything else away. I love that about the Hunger Games Series and I cannot wait for #Mockingjaypart2 but am so sad that it will be the last movie :( but the fandom (i'm sure) will continue to live on!!!

Amy :)
Growing up I was never much of a reader. I guess I never picked up the right book to pull me in....so when I first saw THG in 2012, I absolutely loved it!! But I was not yet pushed to read the series. When Catching Fire came out the following year, I was so excited to see it. I went as soon as I could and was completely blown away by the masterpiece it turned out to be. As soon as the movie ended, I knew I had to figure out what happened to Peeta immediately! So the very next day I bought the series...and finished it within a week! That is when my full blown obsession bloomed 😈
This series has changed my life in so many ways. To name only a few, it has taught me to be brave, and has helped uncover my passion for reading. For this I am eternally grateful. I know that even after Part 2 comes out I will hold this series very close to my heart. I will forever be a tribute 🔥
MY ESCAPE FROM REALITY. This is how I describe my #MyTHGStory. Reading was never my thing until my cousin introduces me to the world of “The Hunger Games” way back 2013. At that time I was stress of my work and I feel depress because of many problems and Thank God I found this relief by reading Mockingjay. YES! It’s kinda weird but it’s true I read the trilogy backward. Some fandom asks me how a tragic story (Mockingjay) helps me to make me feel better. And I said Katniss taught me how to face the dark side of the world. I watch the movie after I finished the book and believe me the same emotion I feel while reading it I was like, Thank God for Francis Lawrence he never change the story. Like Katniss I have sister and I would do anything just to make her happy and safe. I can relate to her (Katniss) because I’m the eldest and I’m currently worked to help my parents in our daily living. She’s too young to be called a hero but she stays humble and innocent just like Peeta said “she has no idea. The effect she can have.” Honestly, these books are the only trilogy I get addicted reading plus the fact that the movie is Awesome. I fall in love with the book and at the same time I’m in love with Jennifer Lawrence. I think one thing that makes The Hunger Games stand out is that the finger salute became a global admiration and symbol of human power against their “evil” leader/ government like in Thailand and Ferguson. I got Goosebumps when I saw videos in the internet of people walking on the street singing The Hanging tree and “IF WE BURN, YOU BURN WITH US! “ one of the famous line of Katniss they paint on one of the landmarks in their city. It’s an eye opener not just for me but to the whole world. I would like to thank Suzanne Collins for creating such a masterpiece like THG trilogy. Now I can’t imagine my life after the movie franchise ends and like what we always said “all good things must come to an end.” Honestly I don’t want to say goodbye because I hate it but I’m forever proud to be called “Tribute”. May the Odds be ever in my favor!
So Help Me God.
Suzanne Collins and The Hunger Games has helped me though a very hard and difficult time in my life. I started having seizures a couple of years ago just shortly after the hunger games come out. my twin sister Devon who is like my Katniss got me the books as a "my glad your not dead" present. and ever since I read them at least twice a year. once I got treated I tired to live my life like those in the book. To be brave and strong like Katniss to be kind and compassionate like Peeta. To help others like Prim and to stand up for what right and wrong. shortly after my seizures I'm become diagnosed with Hashimoto and was thought to have thyroid cancer thank God and knock on wood i didn't. I fell into a deep depression and the hunger games helped to pull me out. I would only read them for months and nothing else then it hit me. I couldn't give into my troubles there was worst things out there. I needed to stand strong and face them just like Katniss did. and for a while I did. then in early December of last year I become partially paralyzed and still am looking for And diagnose. but even with all that going on I still try to remember what the games taught me how to better myself how to fight and not give up. it may be just a book and movie to some but to me its hope and strength. that might seem really corny to some okay its very much so but oh well. :) that's my hunger games story thanks for ready it.
