"Safe & Sound," the hauntingly beautiful ballad by Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars from The Hunger Games, won the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. “Yay,” said Taylor Swift as she accepted her award during a Grammy pre-telecast ceremony that you can view HERE.
“This is unbelievable,” Swift said. “I just want to thank my collaborators for working with me — the Civil Wars and T Bone Burnett. You guys were awesome. We just won a Grammy.” She also thanked The Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins.
John Paul White of the Civil Wars dead-panned of working with Swift, “We’ve been carrying her for a while and it’s getting a little tiring.”
Jennifer Lawrence was in London to attend the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) where she was nominated for Leading Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook. Though Jen lost the Leading Actress BAFTA to Emmanuelle Riva, she gets our vote for Best Dressed (and pretty much everything else!)
Here she is on the red carpet at the Royal Opera House. Jennifer looked beautiful in Dior Haute Couture despite the cold and rain.
It looked like Jennifer Lawrence had a blast on Conan last night! She discussed stalking John Stamos, football "modeling," one of her first TV roles as a mascot, and the King of Beers plus tons more.
We love this post on Philip Seymour Hoffman in the Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog. Of course you all know he's playing Plutarch Heavensbee, Head Gamemaker in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. But it was wonderful to read what a fan he is of Suzanne Collins' books and how committed he is to the story.
“It’s unbelievable what this woman has done,” the actor said in an interview. “She literally tells our modern history of war and the awful things that have happened through these science-fiction novels. In the modern day, we send children off to die to protect our way of life, basically. It’s very powerful the way she does it.”
His amazement at Collins’s books made him say, “I’m in. I want to be a part of that,” he said. Despite the film’s bloody premise, he said the full story gives a very different message than simply “kids who kill each other.” According to him, if the films are done well, they are something kids should see.
Hoffman said since his role in the Catching Fire book isn’t very big — Plutarch Heavensbee takes over from Seneca Crane as Head Gamekmaker. But the film’s writers added more to his character. Then when he films Mockingjay, everything changes.
“I’m looking forward to the next two [films], because his job becomes very different,” Hoffman said of Plutarch’s role. “The story becomes very different and everyone will see what happens.”
Sam Claflin sat down with Teen Vogue during a break from shooting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to talk about landing the coveted role of Finnick Odair, his intense four months of training, working with Jennifer Lawrence, and his bromance with Josh Hutcherson.
Here's a bonus video from Teen Vogue's exclusive interview:
On scoring the role of Finnick:
Yeah, so they decided to go with me as opposed to any of the other young, hot, good-looking actors out there. [Laughs] I auditioned like everyone else. I didn't know what it was for before I went in, and I hadn't read the books. Looking at the page with a character named Finnick, I was like, Who the heck is Finnick? And then I saw Katniss on the page, and I was like, Ahh, OK, maybe this is The Hunger Games. Then they decided they would dye my hair blonde, and presto, there's your Finnick Odair!
On his intense training for the movie (and carrying Mags!):
From the moment I set foot in Atlanta, they had me at the gym, working out twice a day. And then stunt training, it's nonstop. To be fair, I spend a lot of the film carrying an old lady on my back, as Finnick carries Mags for the majority of the arena scenes. I feel like every day of filming is a workout, running around Hawaii with little old Lynn Cohen on my back. As for my diet, I think I've eaten more chickens than there are in the world. [Laughs] I would eat chicken and asparagus for lunch and dinner, and for breakfast I'd have an omelet and oatmeal. And I had that every day for four months. I've talked to my friends and said, "Oh my God, I'm so depressed, I just want a burger." And they're like, "You don't know how lucky you are to be doing what you are doing."
On working with Jennifer and Josh:
Jen is the most talented actress I have had the pleasure of working with. She is truly amazing. She has everything already and doesn't have to try. But the fact that she is so professional and hardworking and willing to get her hands dirty makes her even more amazing. With Josh, we hit it off from the first conversation we ever had, which was about soccer. He asked me if I like soccer, and I was like, Yes, I'm English! It kind of got blown out of proportion, spending time off set playing soccer. It's a definite bromance. I think I'm quoting him on that, or Jen.
On what fans can expect from his portrayal of Finnick:
All I can say is I try very hard and hopefully I won't disappoint people. He's a very charming physical being, and hopefully he will be exactly what people read in the book and I won't be doing an injustice. I purposefully did not want to watch anything I've done so far; I actually don't like looking at my face, so I don't like watching myself on the screen. It's an insecurity thing I have. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, I think, and I strive for perfection. The reason I'm an actor is because I'll never be able to be perfect. I hope people enjoy my interpretation. Hopefully we'll make a bigger and better one this time around.
Jennifer Lawrence attended yet another Oscar party yesterday heading to Spago for The Hollywood Reporter's Nominees Night Party.
Jennifer (wearing Valentino) hung out with co-stars Julia Stiles and Chris Tucker. She said of her Oscar nomination:
It's an unbelievable feeling to just look around at people who have been your heroes forever and to just be in the same room as them. The women that I'm nominated with really just make it so much more special just to think that I could be even in the same sentence as them."
Jennifer Lawrence attended the Oscars Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles today. The annual event honors the year's Oscar nominees. She looked adorable (as always!) wearing a Chloe dress and Casadei heels.
Jennifer and David O. Russel at the Oscars luncheonJen joked about what she's thinking of wearing, how her family keeps her grounded, and what she'll do to stay calm on Oscar day.
What she's going to wear on Oscar night: "I'm going to wear sweatpants! Yeah, I've been thinking about it. We've gotten some sketches together, but nothing decided yet."
Comfort vs. fashion at The Oscars: "Last time it was comfort, and this year I'm like, 'Suck it up. Wear a corset!' I'm going to go for fashion this time. I say that, and . . . that's the problem with the Oscars. They're at the end, where you're exhausted from dressing up."
Her family's reaction to her nomination: "It's actually really calm in my household. I think that no one in my family fully absorbs it . . . They don't get it. It's very calm and I can talk about other things than myself in my house, which is great. Then the night of the Oscars, everyone just gets wasted and has a blast."
How she'll stay calm before the show: "Eating normally calms me down. I remember before the Oscars (in 2011) I was wearing that skintight dress and eating a Philly cheese steak and fries, and I was like 'this is definitely going to help.' And it didn't. I had to double my Spanx."
Jennifer Lawrence was presented with Outstanding Performer of the Year last night at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
Jennifer said of her amazing year, “It’s exhausting and an honor. It’s an exhausting honor.” Here's a peek at her giving interviews on the red carpet at the Arlington Theater in downtown Santa Barbara last night.
Jen sat down in front of a 200+ audience with festival director Roger Durling for a Q & A. She reflected on her short but tremendously successful career. In her usual candid and hilarious fashion, she talked about her start in the business.
“I had never really thought of acting growing up. It was never really a possibility. Now looking back at it, I know that I was an actress since birth. Dressing up in different outfits. And I’d introduce myself as Lucille Ball. So now it’s starting to make sense.”
After a scout spotted her in New York on Spring Break, she and her mother met with agencies.
“In the car from the hotel to the modeling agency I decided that I didn’t want to be a model that I was only going to be an actress. And that I’d only sign with an agency that would let me act. And so I was turning down all these agencies and my mother thought I was an idiot.”
