Liam Hemsworth Covers Men's Fitness Magazine

Liam Hemsworth is the November cover star of Men's Fitness Magazine. Inside the issue Mr. Handsome man (sorry, after The Muppets he's going to be called that forever. In THAT voice). Inside the issue, Liam briefly touches on Mockingjay Part 2, talks about going vegan like his co-star Woody Harrelson, his newest rescue dog, and reveals his hidden talent is painting! Who knew?

On Gale's expanded role in Mockingjay Part 2:

The movies are always played through the eyes of Katniss [Jennifer Lawrence]. But this last one is more of an ensemble, I would say. There’s this squad that gets sent into the Capitol—which is me, Jennifer, Josh [Hutcherson], and then a few other people—and most of the film is centered around us. I’d say it’s the most fast-paced and action-packed film out of all of them. It feels like you’re in the middle of a battle the whole time. Part 1 was more talking about what was going to happen. Now it feels like you’re in the middle of the battle the whole time. It’s really fun.

I’m really not a serious guy. I feel like I’m a pretty positive influence on a lot of people in my life, and I try to be healthy and try to help the world as much as I can. I’m a complete goofball—I’m not at all a cool guy. My brothers used to call me “Diplodocus,” which is a large dinosaur. A large slow-moving dinosaur.

Katniss & Mockingjay Part 2 Cover December SFX Magazine

Click for full size

Jennifer Lawrence suited up as Katniss Everdeen in Mockingjay Part 2 covers the December issue of SFX Magazine.

SFX sat down with director Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, and Liam Hemsworth to discuss the film and some of their favorite memories from the franchise.

Francis Lawrence discussed how Mockingjay Part 2 is different from Mockingjay Part 1 and why he didn't go full Tarantino.

"Visually it’s different because it’s a very different story,” shares Lawrence. "The last one takes place underground and Katniss is sidelined. There’s a lot less action and it’s dark and claustrophobic. This one’s very different. Very quickly we’re out of District 13 and in District 2. And we spend a lot of time in the Capitol. That gives a different foundation for visual choices that opens the film up in a much bigger way. It’s much more epic.

"I think it’s also much more similar tonally to the first two movies. The war in this movie is essentially an arena. There are definitely shared themes throughout the entire series. This is the movie where all of the themes coalesce. The last one was about propaganda and the media and the manipulation of imagery. Those aspects and the consequences of war and violence all come together here."

Was Lawrence worried about creating a violent movie, which would alienated the film's teenage fanbase? "I was both concerned and determined not to flinch," he admits. "One of the big themes of this story is violence – the effects of violence and the consequences of it. These books are targeted at teenagers. Part of the reason they appealed is that Suzanne didn’t flinch. And luckily people have embraced it. You also don’t want to flinch.

"But you don’t want to get an R rating and alienate all the teenagers that the books are meant for. My goal was not to focus on the carnage, on the bloodbath aspect of it, but on the emotional impact, the emotional consequences. We did the things that are in the book. It needs to have impact. That’s where you don’t want to flinch. You just don’t need to fetishise the blood, the carnage and the gore.”

Jennifer Lawrence's favorite part about The Hunger Games franchise?

The highlight was meeting my two best friends.

Josh's most memorable fan encounter:

I had someone in Spain who came up to me – I don’t speak very much Spanish, and she didn’t speak very much English – and she was trying to explain to me something about The Hunger Games. She said ‘Look!’ She pulled up [her top]… I was like 'Oh my god!’ Real Or Not Real was tattooed on either side. I was like oh boy, I applaud you for commitment. However, I’m happy it’s not my face."

What he kept from filming:

I kept a little locket I gave to Katniss.

Josh Hutcherson and Jena Malone in 'The Rusted' Short Film for Canon's Project Imagination

We've got an earlier than expected look at The Rusted starring Josh Hutcherson and Jena Malone, part of Canon’s Project Imagination. Both Josh and Jena are really amazing in the short film, as siblings dealing with the aftermath of the death of an abusive parent. It's wonderful to see them doing such powerful work. It's definitely worth your 20 minutes to watch.
